oil Quick drain

Can a oil quick drain be installed on a Cont. C-145-2 engine. Anyone have a P/N? Thanks. Tailspintommy

AeroQuip PN: AE80666H or Saf-Air Pn: S1000 (or Spruce PN: 07-00880) about $64.

It's a 1-inch X 18 (thread pitch) drain valve.

(You don't need the anti-seize)

Mine was leaking so I just received a seal kit for it from McFarlane. Kit number is S1000-K. Spruce also sells them but were out of stock this week.

I spoke to Saf-Air and asked for any installation info and I got this exploded view and the recommendation of anti-seize.

I’m looking for a torque spec for it. I found in a Continental SB a torque for “Plug with crush gasket” for all models of 15.8-17.5 ft-lbs. Does that sound like the right torque for this drain valve?

Yes, it sounds like the right torque. Nice information Richard posted from EAA but the correct torque would be either from Continental Found in M-0, a Lycoming manual if you have one of those engines or the valve manufacturer.

Following-Up on Bruce’s comment: Edit> The EAA video / chart posted by Richard is the Lycoming procedure, so if you have a Lycoming engine that would be appropriate (and would likely be helpful if you are out in the “field” without a torque-meter/wrench.)

The Continental M-0 document may be found in our Mx Library by Assoc’n Members: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=13635

The specified Torque-Chart for all fasteners, including those utilizing CRUSH GASKETS, will be found in Appendix “B”, Page B-6. For example, many of the 3/4” and smaller crush gaskets are specified at 190-210 Inch-lbs,… while the 1-3/4” nut/gasket such as the Oil Screen is specified at 500-520 Inch-lbs. (Note that equates to 43 ft-lbs…but that the instructions for the STC’d Tempest/FM-Enterprises Adaptor is 60-ft-lbs.)

Members are encouraged to download the M-0 pdf and read it…. (worth an Associates’ Degree at most Junior Colleges). :wink:

Thanks, George. I was wondering why I couldn't find the torque limits service bulletin on Continental support web page. It looks like they moved that torque info from the service bulletin to an appendix in the maintenance manual.
