The boarding steps on the 170 have been pointing towards the ground for years now. Do they need to be replaced, or is there a good way to salvage them?
Thanks
Tom

I am very careful putting any weight on steps I don't know to be structurally sound. One of mine broke and the reason no one was hurt is I'd heard stories of others being hurt when they gave way. Sounds like yours are questionable.

I removed mine and after finding suitable replacement tubing cut the step from the support arm. The support arm was sound but the step and welds had rotted. I removed the step and the rot and welded the new step tubing on. Painted and replaced the step. Good as new.

Member Johnny Williams, of Ducote Field, San Angelo, TX sells a beefier boarding step. He advertises in the Directory.

Atlee Dodge sells new ones as well. They go for 350-400$ powder coated white.
Some guys remove them. Weld a small fillet plate on the inside of the bend. No more problems after that.
