I did an exchange with Chief Aircraft (Grants Pass, Oregon). The needle and seat on the new one were bad out of the box, but Chief had me a another one two days after I called them. All shipping on their nickel. Great folks to work with. I'd do the same thing again.

Miles,
How did you discover that the needle and seat were bad in the carburetor that you received from Chief?

If t was found after instllation, who ate the extra labor?

I found the problem when the engine wouldn't shut down with the mixture control after the first engine run. The labor was mine, so there was no extra direct cost and I didn't broach the subject with the overhauler. The A&P was a friend who had agreed to look over my shoulder for a flat fee while I installed the engine. I went back to some old posts and found that it was actually Chief's carb overhauler America's Fuel Systems that handled the exchange directly: http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtop ... ief#p29505

I flew about 125 hours in a little under 2 years, and just ran the engine (in prep for annual inspection) for the first time since last April, with NO problems.

I agree with N171TD----- Aircraft Carburetor and Injection service in Dallas puts out a really fine product.Had mine rebuilt a year ago there. They have been in business for a long time.
