The International Cessna^® 170 Association

Hello all I am new here but I have been researching the 170 as a first plane for a while now and I have noticed some of the issue with paperwork for 180 conversions. I tried to use the search function for this company I found but turned up no results. Anyway here is the link:

I looked briefly on their page and it seems they have stc's for both O-360's and IO-360's
My question is has anyone done business with these guys are are they new to the 170 world? Also check out there project IO-390 172, I'm not certain but perhaps with enough requests they might try to make an stc for the 170 as well. A 210hp 170 I would imagine would be pretty sweet, and I seem to remember reading somewhere that the IO-390 is only 8lbs heavier than an IO-360.

But like I said I'm new here and if I am wacked out of my gord let me know. If anyone on here is near FAY and wouldn't mind giving me a ride in one of these beautiful planes I would love to go. I got my TW endorsment in a Super Decathlon while I was learning to fly and fell in love with taildraggers.

Mark, stoots was a member and helped put on the Fairbanks convention. very Familiar with 170's. his has the 180 and on floats. Some of the Alaska members should/will jump in and give you new updates/contact info on him. Ron

He does not have a 170 anymore he has a highly modified 175. You should deal with him directly. All it takes is money.

Fayetteville is a long ways from Alaska. If I may...I'd suggest you'll save a lot of money and effort by shopping a bit closer to home for a plane. Lots and lots of money is wasted in the actual search-efforts by many folks, many of whom travel great distances looking at several refusals.....and then have to cough up for long-distance hotels, inspections, maintenance, and a ferry flight (which these days could easily cost $1K or more just in fuel).... who later realize they could have found a good choice in their own backyard.

Airplane buying tip: Make every effort to find a plane within your own state. The benefits of buyer-protection-laws are much simpler when the transaction is conducted within the home-state of the buyer. (Hopefully you'll not have such issues if you do your "homework", but nevertheless it's better for many reasons to shop nearby.)

Thanks for the tip. I will definently consider that. I have a friend that recently purchased a stinson. He search within NC and the neiboring state and finally found one he liked so I'm hoping I'll be able to do the same. I had stumbled on that sight for the 180hp and it reminded me of the post before where paperwork was an issue so I figured I would post it.

We have a 53 at our airport that needs tender loving care. It doesn't fly anymore. The owner is too old and I believe doesn't have his medical.
