I tried a set of 1978. 172 doors on my 49,170. They look like they will fit with just a change of the hinge? Does this work?

Gee if it does can you use the later hinges and just mount them to the doorpost? Stronger, more available if they break. I'm interested in this. Do these doors have the latch that closes by turning the inside handle?

It looks like the hinge on the newer doors could be used but you would have to drill new holes, so I thought changing the hinge would look better. No one has said if they are interchangable? The later doors have a lock latch that the old ones do not have.

That's the direction I want to take. A friend had a 53 C170B with Avcon 180 HP and he had newer 180 doors and hinges. I ferried a 185 last tuesday that had the same kind of latches (roller type) and handle the long imbeded kind. Being that this 185 was coming out of paint, the owner had replaced the hingesfor a better fit $2300!!! for the pair. So, if you hunt down some doors, make sure you negotiate the price to include the hinges and the striker part that you'll have to adapt to the post. After learning this, I figure if a person is lucky enough to get 2 complete doors with both side window that open, all the hardware and glass (which you can replace) and the new type opening for the window (which locks up better), for $2000. it would be a bargain.
