Do the engine mount bushings go into the engine mount with the flange on the top or bottom? Due to the resting weight, how does the flange go to be clamped? Just checking to be sure they are oriented right.

John,

As best as I remember, the flange goes on top. It gets clamped into the engine "leg" casting by tightening the two AN4 bolts on the leg. (The hole in the leg is open on the outboard side.) Also, the geometry of the installation will keep the the engine from "slipping down the mount"; that is, the legs on each side are 45 degrees to the vertical, thus 90 degrees to each other. This picture isn't great but is the best I could find.

Thanks Miles,
That is the way they are oriented. While I am there, I wanted to make sure. :D

They go the other way. Flange on the bottom. The only ref. i know of is figure 8 of the OH manual. It shows the flange on the bottom.

Thanks ModCessna,

I wasn't sure, and couldn't readily locate my overhaul manual, so I just went on memory. If flange down is the way they're shown in that manual, that's the way mine probably are. I couldn't really tell from my picture, and I haven't been to the airport to check first hand.

The flange is down in your picture.

Miles, try rotating your picture 90 degrees clockwise.

Item number 28 is the part in question (click picture to enlarge).

I am finding that the Lord H-3006-1 engine mount is no longer available. I've tried Aircraft Spruce & Wag Aero who both verbally told me that the part is no longer available. The Lord Corp web site no longer lists the part. Now that mine mounts need replacing on my C-170A with the C-145, does any one have any suggestions?

I have a set of 4 Lord H-3006-1 engine mounts (still in the original package from Spruce) left from my overhaul in May 2010. I didn't realize the overhaul included them so I didn't need to use the mounts I bought.

The Continental P/N is 23411. Sacramento Sky Ranch shows four in stock as of 10/04/10. Skygeek also has two of them in stock as of 10/27/10 and additional ones could be in from TCM in 7-10 days. Their prices were a bit higher than Sac. Sky Ranch.

Two years late to reading this post on engine mounts but now I find myself needing a set of H-3006 mounts which apparently are no longer available except the replacement version part # 23411 from Sky Geek at $62 each. Has anyone experienced any problems with the replacement part or know of another place to buy them? Looks like Spruce doesn't carry them either. Only reason I am changing them is small amount of visible dry cracking and presumed old age though no noticeable vibration detected. I have owned this 48 ragwing for 13 years and didn't find any reference to the mounts being changed in the logs. Would surely be upset if new ones cause problems though.

Engine sag is probably a better indicator of engine mount condition than what looks like dry root or cracking. New rubber mounts, specially that kind found on smaller Continentals like A-65 through C-90s, will display cracking in months.
