Headliner

Post by marstall »

I need a new headliner. Where is the best place to get one? I see them listed in Spruce. Which fabric is better, wool or vinyl? Do they come with the cut-out for the ceiling light system? A zipper for inspections? Is there a better alternative than buying a "pre-made" headliner? 1953 170B. Thanks. Steve

Airtex makes very nice headliners and the wool ones are the best. You can install a wool headliner and after it's all complete, using a spray-bottle with water, ...mist it and it will shrink right up taut. Looks great.
Yes, it comes with the zipper, but remind them which/where the zipper is located in your model. (My B-model is parallel and just aft of the aft spar carry-thru. You can see the seam in the upper/left of the photo. The earlier models run fore/aft above the baggage compartment.)

Mine headliner from Airtex (wool) did not come with provisions for the overhead light assembly. You could ask them but I suspect you have to do the cutting.

I suspect that Airtex leaves the overhead light cut out up to the installer due to the differences in model years.

I FORGOT!

SELKIRK Aviation, INc. also sells all kinds of interior items, including wool and vinyl headliners (in 4 different colors). They have been very easy to do business with in my experience and went out of their way to custom-mfr a part for me to fit my bagg-door.

Yes, I do have some info from Silkirk. Good to get a recommendation. Actually, I wanted the headliner uncut for the roof light system so I could fit it correctly. thanks again for all the responses.
