SHOULDER HARNESS

I DID SOME RESEARCH IN THE FORM AND COULDN'T FIND
THE ANSWER, MAYBE SOMEONE OUT THERE CAN HELP. I HAVE THE HEADLINER OUT OF THE A/C AND AT THE SAME TIME I WANT TO PUT IN A COUPLE SET OF SHOULDER HARNESS. AS FAR AS INSTALLATION ALL I SEE IS THE AFT SPAR. I JUST DON'T LIKE THE IDEAL OF DRILLING ANY WHERE IN THAT AREA. ANY HELP ON HOW ANYONE INSTALLED THEIRS, WOULD BE A GREAT HELP. BILL

The best set up is from BAS but its $1000 for the pair. They are great!! They have a bracket that uses the nutplates in the rear spars that is centered on each seat, plus you drill out a couple of rivets in front of the spar and replace them with steel screws. The kit takes about 2.5 hrs and can be done with the headliner in place. It has a real pretty cover plate that finishes it off nicely.
Do not use fixed shoulder harnesses. They were made for airplanes with electric flaps. If you have them adjusted correctly you can not reach the flaps. So the habit is to leave them loose for TO and Landing when you are most likely to need the harnesses. If you think you need shoulder restraints do it right or you will be disappointed.
BAS also offers shoulder harnesses that are permanently attached to the lapbelts. This makes it easy for new Passengers to figure it out and it keeps you from fumbling around trying to find everything and get 'em straight. No extra for this option.

I seem to recall it being noted that only the B model had factory nutplates in the rear spar carrythru. I know my ragwing doesn't have them.

Eric, your correct, this 51 A model doesn't have them either..
