Wondering what this was for?

Post by N3092A »

I've got my 53 B apart for paint/interior/radios/misc. We are looking for a place to relocate the ELT and Stobe power supply. (Previous locations were the baggage shelf and floor under rear seat). We were thinking of fabricating a shelf that would incorporate item 42, figure23 in the ipc. It is listed as part# 0511030-5, angle-radio installation. My question is; was there ever a rack installed on this angle, and are there any drawings of it from Cessna? I'm just trying to get some approved data and I'm interested in what Cessna originally had in mind.

Thanks

N3092A,

My ELT is located on a shelf that is attached to the bracket identified as Fig. 23 item 42, It's working great with no issues. :D :D :D

Mine has a shelf with remote box for one of the radios and the elt back there. Works good as long as you don't want to go with the extended baggage compt. mod. Keeps them out of the way.

That is precisely where my strobe power supply and ELT is mounted on a shelf. (and where Cessna mounted C-175 battery boxes. Hows that for design?)

I sent you a pm for the photo request. Just remember If you install anything at that station you will need to update your Wt & Bl per the in's / station aft of the datum "Firewall". Look in your Aircraft equipment list and you may find items that have been removed in the past from that rack and note the in's / station along that rack and you can make a quick update to your Wt & Bl from that info after you do your install. Hope this little bit of info helps.

Thanks guys, John, that rack that has your remote compass on it is beautiful, was that part of a STC kit or did you fabricate that?

The rack on the left side has always been there with ELT and Stobe power supply. The rack on the Right side was made by JA (avionics shop) when they installed the remote compus. The Flux Capacitor (putting out 3 million jigawatts) is just out of sight in the top of the picture.
