What's getting old is the restrictions around the President.

Come on guys. Grandma flying around in a cub is a pretty scary thing. :D :D I have to say though I worry about Obamas safety every day as my home airport is only about ten miles from Bidens house. Bill K

A cub is barely capable of killing it's own pilot, how much of a threat could it be?

That Cub wouldn't carry a big enough bomb to blow his hat off, but you could drive your U-haul full of fertilizer right through there. Come to think of it, who would notice another truck full of fertilizer around Obama. The lady and her cub don't scare me but he sure as heck does.

Ditto on that one! And it doesn't matter who he is or which party he belongs to!

The Penalty of an open society which has the rights of privacy and gun ownership, and the privileges of mobility/vehicle and airplane freedoms.
Which of those are you willing to give up?

It would be argued George, that citizens have already given up to many privileges and freedoms. And I'm not willing to give many more.

I believe we have elevated the position of the President to King like status. If he was viewed as less important he wouldn't be a target.

We put essentially a 30 mile target around the POTUS. A ring that has proven real good at restricting the privileges and freedoms of the citizens. I wonder how well it has restricted the terrorists?

I also wonder if the preventive measure, should it ever be tested, not be worse than the attack itself. I doubt terrorists, after their preparations for an aerial attack have gone undetected to this point, will be stopped by F-16s. The aftermath of any aerial engagement is likely as bad maybe worse as the intended attack. We know what a high speed impact of a larger aircraft will to to a couple of tall buildings. But we may have actually gotten lucky in NYC. Had those aircraft strafed the roof tops of a few blocks or more the death and destruction could easily have been 5 or 10 times what it was.

The key is to stop the terrorists before they ever have the capability for a substantial aerial attack. The 30 mile restricted area to me is an admittance we have failed to do that. And quite frankly I don't think that is the case.

Yes holding the position of the POTUS is a dangerous job. So is that of a Private walking the ground in some hostile territory serving our country. Some protection of the POTUS is reasonable, at the cost of personal freedoms it currently imposes, it is not.

Uh oh what Mike? :)

I realize my little rant could categorize me to one political philosophy or another and could be seen therefor as a political rant but that was not my intent. I take great effort to stay politically neutral on this site though I'm sure my colors have shown through on some responses to others politically slanted rants. My intent was not to start a political discussion, if I have, I'm sorry.
