STARTER OIL LEAK?

Post by derf62 »

I have just went back thru all the info on starter oil leaks that I can find. My IA tells me that Geo. Mock has a fix? Any comments appreciated.

You can fix the starter oil leak by changing to a key start starter. Or you can slow it way down by putting a "New" clutch gear and bushing and seal on your starter.

You should be able to find a post that shows the Napa PN for the seal. I put one in and all my oil leak woes went away. I'll try searching myself.

At overhaul I went with the B@N (I think that's what it is) push button starter. It is wonderful! One of the best modification I made.

That button starter is the B&C. They look really nice, but they list at $800 in my 2002-2003 Spruce catalog. You also need an installation kit at $70,and you have to cut off a shaft inside the accessory case. Plus do a 337.
Regarding the oil seal for the starter clutch,I have written down that it's a NAPA p/n 9858,or a Chicago Rawhide p/n 9859.

Chicago Rawhide p/n 9859.

12-December-2003
SKF USA Inc. (a division of SKF AB, Sweden) announced the latest in a series of North American manufacturing restructuring moves, this time involving Chicago Rawhide seal plants.

The CR seal manufacturing plant in Franklin, North Carolina, will be closed and production transferred to other manufacturing facilities in North America.

NAPA may be a better choice.
