I am shopping for a plug gapping tool and Aircraft Spruce shows four in their catalogue. They range in price from $5.57 for the "Economy Spark Plug Gapping Tool" to $188.95 for the "Model 2500 Gap Setting Tool". I have used both the high end models in the past but have never used the $12.95 "Precise-Gap" tool. This is a simple hand-held unit consisting of a round cylinder you screw the plug into and two T-handle adjusters that you screw in to adjust the gap. It appears to work about the same as the "CT-415AV" tool ($88.95), just not bench mountable. Anyone ever use the $12 dollar model or should I splurge for the $88 gadget?
I cant see spending $188 for the "2500"! The only other thing priced that outrageous is the $29.95 spark plug tray !
I bought one of the cheapie Spruce "Precise-Gap" tools last year and it works just fine for us average plane owners who need to gap once or twice a year. Probably not the tool for A&P's however.
I just bought one of these "precise-gap" tools from spruce,as well as a "go/no-go" gap gauage & a jar of anti-sieze. This was after borrowing a friends'. The tools both work just fine for their intended purpose. for as often as I will have to use them (hopefully),they look like they'll do an admirable job.
