Flap handle button

Gentlemen, we picked up our new to us 170 at Winnipeg and are working our way to Niagara Falls. I'm enjoying the aircraft and the weather has been great.
On approach to KERY this afternoon I went to select the second flap position and there was no button on the flap handle end. I found the button on the floor after landing. I had a quick look at how it's secured before we left for the motel but I would like to ask you for advise prior to my look tomorrow morning.
How is the button secured to the metal rod inside the handle?
Thank you.
Rob

Mine fell out six years ago (1955 170B). If I remember correctly the threads in AL button were stripped. IA re-attached with some kind of epoxy. 8O

Mine came off awhile back, too.
I believe that the end of the rod was knurled, and the button was pushed onto the knurl with a small interference fit.
I doubt if they intended for it to last 64 years.
A little Loctite or epoxy will hold it on.

Gentlemen, thank you your reply's. We're off to the airport now and I'll see what I can do attaching the button to the rod. Another fine day for 170 flying.

J B Weld.
First, put a crimp about 1/8 in from the end of the rod with dikes, or wire cutters.
Then, fill the hole in the knob with the epoxy, using a pop sickle stick,
and insert the rod.
Let it cure.

Yes, what George said. You can also stake the edge of the hole on the button. Or sprinkle a little alum on it.......
