Re: Tailwheel cables slack
I wish I could reach in! The only way I can even see in is through the elevator pushrod slot, and that is hard. I think the pulley alignment is due to the extreme slackness of the cables, when they are snug everything lines up nicely. If I can get to the plane today I will take photos of the spring/...

Re: Tailwheel cables slack
Tailwheel geometry is tomorrow. My feeling is now that maybe my tailspring is starting to sag, and as it it "relaxes" that is allowing the chains to slacken? Or one of the tailwheel cables has slipped on the rudder cable, but both sides have two clamps ( I only see one in the parts book) T...

Re: Tailwheel cables slack
Wow. Firstly thanks to everyone for the response, his is a lot of information.
I borrowed a USB borescope and took some rather poor photos, and did not find anything obvious. No tears int the bulkhead or shredded pulleys that I could see. Photo quality is pretty poor though.

Re: Tailwheel cables slack
I have taken off that inspection plate, but did not know what to look for as I had not looked at the drawing. Nothing obvious torn out of place but it was a bright sunny day and hard to see in there even with a flashlight. The pulleys that are visible through the little fairings where the cable exit...

Tailwheel cables slack
I am having an issue with my tailwheel control cables. I have a 1956 B model with the internal pulley set up to these cables. I installed a rebuilt tailwheel a year ago, with new chain. About a month later I took out one link each side to maintain a snug tension. Over the last couple of weeks I have...

Re: OT lathe question
That is a nice little lathe. here in Canada I would expect to pay about $2000-2500, but would expect at least a 3 jaw and 4 jaw chuck and some tooling with it.

Re: Removal of wing struts, "V" struts
I have a B with a single strut, but replacing all bolts with punches or pins before the final removal makes the job easy..
We did it with three, one to hold wing tip, one to remove the srut, and on on the inner wing. Very straightforward.

Re: Pattern procedures
Two notches is 20 degrees for me. I am much more consistent with three.
I try not to obsess with the gauges, and certainly once I have made the runway don't watch the airspeed but I do find it helps me to set up the same way.

Re: Pattern procedures
I love this thread. I am a very new pilot, 150 hrs, 50 solo in my 170, mostly in the circuit. What my suitably crusty old tailwheel instructor taught me was: carb heat, 1800 rpm, slow by pitching up when parallel with the desired point of touchdown, turn base 1500rpm, aim for 65mph. two notches of f...
