Hooker Shoulder belts for 170B
I’m trying to understand the installation for the hooker belts. I have a request in to them. I understand the BAS installation requirements and know the advantage of inertial reel over fixed/adjustable belts. I had fixed belts in my 1958 170C (Bolen Conversion for 172) and I was fine with them. If a...

Re: Tempest/F&M filter adapter AD
Thanks Bruce My motive was to find out why that gasket was changed but your explanation makes sense. The directions with the STC from 1992 says to install the “gaskets supplied” but it doesn’t say what they were. Annual is starting in a few weeks so this is part of getting the ducks in a row. Rich

Tempest/F&M filter adapter AD
While looking at my installation done in 1992 it appears the gasket in question has already been changed to the copper gasket called out in the SB and AD. So I spoke with the IA who maintained the airplane for many years. He says there was a service bulletin prior to 2007 which called for that chang...

Re: Serial numbers vs N number.
Thanks George and Bruce. I was pretty sure they tracked within blocks which is why I was curious about the one I saw for sale. As I was typing the question I think I answered it myself, coming to the same explanation George gave. I used to own a 62 Comanche 250 and noticed the same thing with respec...

Serial numbers vs N number.
Should these track, at least in blocks? My 52 is N2444D s/n is 20596. N2455D which is 11 N numbers later has s/n 20599 which is only three numbers later. FAA data base shows N2455D originally s/n 20697 which is 11 numbers later. Exported to Canada in 1964. So, I guess the current 2455D was an availa...

Re: Risk of Potential Adverse 5G Effects on Radio Altimeters
News reports airline group suing to stop/delay 5G rollout near major airports. “ WASHINGTON, Dec 31 (Reuters) - U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and the head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Friday asked AT&T (T.N) and Verizon Communications (VZ.N) to delay the planned...

Re: Risk of Potential Adverse 5G Effects on Radio Altimeters
What happened to FCC part 15 approval. It states in part that the device should neither cause or be susceptible to interference with other products. There is also Part 68 which has something to do with this too. I’ve been retired for 20 years so maybe my memory is dim. Perhaps since a radar altimete...

Re: Brake Stuck On?
Also check that the brake line is not side loading the caliper which impedes the caliper from floating freely. I had this exact problem on my new to me 170. Brakes were not dragging enough to stop the wheels but they would make a scrapping sound. I took them apart three times to lube them. That last...

Agreed
Avgas woks on the fresh stains. I let the ones on top where it’s difficult to reach stay too long. It’s bare polished aluminum there. I could polish them out but I couldn’t reach them all. The Carbon X on a rag on the end of a mop handle did the trick.
