Speaking of Alaska adventures: Whatta bummer! Anybody know this guy? Eric From the 11/28/04 Anchorage Daily News: A pilot missing since Monday was found alive Saturday afternoon in a remote bay south of Seldovia, in good shape and upbeat spirits, the Alaska National Guard said. Michael Holman of Wa...

Re: glider towing with c-170

does anybody know of an stc for glider towing package for 170? yes does any body have experience towing with c170? yes the l-19 was the best of all the tow planes which is why i was thinking our c-170b with 180hp, 80 inch prop, horton stol, and c-180 gear might be a pretty good tow plane. bigbub1@e...

Sorry, my point was, DON'T take the door off, just open the window. Last summer I took the door off, removed EVERYTHING loose in the cabin, belted in a professional photographer, and did about a 2 hour air to air photo session of gliders flying in the McKinley Park area here in Alaska. Flying with ...

A question for pdb. ----- If you were flying the trench which at 400 sm is well within the normal range of a C-170 (A or B) in still air, you would have no reason to slow to 88 mph for fuel conservation. If you were bucking a headwind that was eating into your fuel mileage, 88 mph would surely be t...

Yeah, why would they say cruise between 2200-2450 and then have the performance chart go all the way down to 2100rpm? (just curious....). I think that some of the answer is found in Stick and Rudder under the section The Working Speeds of an Airplane . I highly recommend it for any interested in kn...

Don't waste your money on VGs. They don't do anything for the Cessna 100 series wing. They really screw it up if you have to use wing covers. I disagree, both about performance and wing covers. I have VGs and use Kennon mesh covers on my 170. I anticipated that they would be a complete disaster wit...

I ended up cutting each one-piece seat cover into a separate bottom & back. The bottoms fit pretty good as is,but the backs required some sewing machine work. They came out looking pretty good, I thought, and the price was right-- 20 bucks plus some time. Eric Thanks guys, the $20 price range was...

Do it yourself upholstery

I finally have to redo the seats in my 170b. I have been looking at the Airtex kits and wanted to know if there are any do it yourself books that will give me an idea of what I am getting into. I only need to do the front seats.

Is this a job I can do in a weekend?

Any tips will be appreciated.

What about vortex generators? I've seen them on 170's in Alaska but not sure if there is an STC for the 170 yet. Getting about ready to start dropping trees to put in my 900' strip. Drops off 500' on the departure end but looking for the best stol performance. Joe 4518C Joe: There are STC'd VGs for...

Re: Flight Plan - NW Montana to Alaska

Am planning a trip in my 182 (sold my beloved 170B) from NW Montana to Gakona (Gulkana) NE of Anchorage. I have 4-5 hours fuel and can, but prefer not to, use autogas. Any flight plan ideas or tips? Thanks. You have three basic choices, working your way from east to west. 1) The Highway: Work your ...

Re: Erick's Jumpseat

Erick, how is your 185 seat attached in your 170? 30 seconds to remove, how about reinstalling? How long does it normally take? Do you have the seat on one side or in the middle? Pokey: I installed my single AD seat in the rear behind the pilot. My thinking was that there might be times when I want...

Hi 170 folks, I recently bought my 170A and just joined the the 170 Assoc. I've been reading the posts here for a while and want to say thanks for all the good information. Does anyone have any experience with the Atlee Dodge seats? They are a little less expensive than the BAS seats, but I don't k...

Re: rudder return springs

I had a rudder return spring break yesterday. I've heard that it's a bitch of a job to reach up in there & install the new spring. Any advice?... Eric I helped my mechanic fix mine two years ago. It really helps to have two guys do the job. I don't exactly remember how we did it but if I recall...
