Tailwheel Tom and the XP Mod STC Contact

Post by canav8 »

Does anyone have current contact info for Tailwheel Tom regarding his TCM IO-360 STC?
I am trying to get status info on the STC. Thank You, Doug

Tom's email is

tom@thelandinggearworks.com

Current status of the STC is that he now owns it directly vs in a company's name and he is selling copies.
He still does not have a PMA for the motor mount however, he will sell you the detail drawings used to get the STC in the first place.

The cost of the STC paperwork and Tech drawings (under contract to fabricate one mount for your aircraft) is $1,500.00

He can also tack weld a mount for you with his jig and send to you for finish welding and NDT IAW the tech drawings.
Cost of the tack welded mount is $3,500.
Email with Tom last week wrote:...The policy of our company is to protect the integrity of the original approved data and thus the fixture is the key to the design. Key dimensions were deliberately left to the jig to secure those proprietary rights of the STC holder. I would have to give out the jig secrets and I am not willing to do that...
So, he can't finish the mount due to no PMA but you can send the tack welded assembly to a welding shop to finish it IAW the tech drawings and be approved.

My IA is satisfied with this so I've started the process. Goal is to have a 210hp Cessna 170 be end of 2014.

David, although I am behind in the process, I plan to get it initiated. I have no problem with the welding issues. What engine does Tom say is preferred? Doug

Just about any of the TCM IO-360's. I don't think any are excluded but some cant use all the different props.
No TSIO-360s are covered.

If you can find FWF off a 172XP, you're gold.

Would you do the welding and NDT yourself or do you have a local shop to work with? I'm still looking for a shop to do my welding. Maybe we can get a group rate :)

F. Atlee Dodge in Anchorage is the gold standard for engine mount repairs, strengthening, welding, and powder-coating. They excel in custom work and owner-produced parts. Talk to Steve Kracke.

Just got of the phone with F. Atlee Dodge and they ball parked about $300 to finish the welding and another $75 to powder coat. (I dropped your name)

He did say I should look for someone closer if possible to save on shipping.
Washington State to Alaska to Maryland is a bit of a hike.
