Has anyone tried the "REAL GASKET CORP" or another name for the company would be "Nick Carter Engines" located in Elizabethton, TN., push rod tube replacement parts. These are the ones that Harold Carter sells as a replacement that DOES NOT REQUIRE CYL REMOVAL. THIS PRODUCT CONVERTS THE ENGINE TO A SPRING LOADED TUBE SYSTEM SIMILAR TO THE CONTINENTAL IO520. PMA approved. I purchased one set and am about ready to try it. What it calls for is sawing the orig tube in half and removing it.

ANY INFORMATION APPRECIATED.

:D I have installed them on my C-145. I did the work and my IA signed off. It was not difficult to do, the advice I would give is to be sure to clean all the approiate parts very well before doing the intall. I have had not leaks. Is a very good product.

My O-300 seems to be leaking from the rubber joint on both pushrod tubes on the middle cylinder of each bank. Fore and aft tubes each side look OK. I would be interested to know more detail on both the pushrod conversion kit and the company that makes/sells the kit. Does anyone have a phone number for Nick Carter Engines?

With work on the pushrod tube seals coming up in the near future, now would be a good time to investigate the conversion that would do away with taking the cylinders off of the case :wink:

:D The Real Gasket Corp sells the push rod replacement. Harold Carter is the owner and his # is 1-800 635-7325. They are located in Elizabethton, TN 37643.
They work great. do as many cylinders as you need.

all my pushrod tubes are leakin, do they have email, perhaps i can buy the conversion (cost for 6 cyls?) or at least a tool to fix the tubes in the rocker box.

Push rod tubes

I have purchased the new Real Gasket push rod tubes. I've gotten the old tubes cut off and removed from the block end. I'm having trouble getting the old tubes out of the rocker arm end. Any suggestions?
All twelve are very tight...........won't turn or wiggle.

I didn't have your problem...all mine just about fell out or were easily turned back and forth and worked out with a pair of channel lock pliers. With your problem I would either use an old socket just large enough to slide in the rocker hole from the outside and ride against the pushrod tube, and then tap it out with a machinists hammer. OR Use a drift against the upper edge of the pushrod tube moving around to several points while tapping with a hammer until the old tube begins to move out.

The easy way to fix these leaks is the seal the tubes in the head. They make a tool that expands the tube in the head and seals it. Most if not all of the oil you see on the boots is coming from the head end and running down the tube. You can buy the tool from El Reno for less than 100.00 and you will have it for use on other cylinders you may wind up putting on in the future.

After doing some research with the engine clean i discovered that the leak was on the rocker cover gasket and a bit through the upp part of the pushrod tubes. Ill try to expand the tubes in the rocker box. What are the best gaskets for the rocker cover?, because mine leak a lot.

Aircraft Spruce sells silicone-based gaskets, and a brand-name is REAL gaskets. (The generic silicone are just as good and cost less.) They are also re-useable should you need to remove them.
When removing stubborn push-rod tubes that are stuck in the cylinder head, you can collapse them with heavy pliers at their entrance to the head. Then simply slide them out. This only works if you're going to discard them, of course.
