I've added SK175-8, "Installation of Pitot Static Line Sump" to the Maintenance Library. I'd call this a minor alteration; just a logbook entry.gahorn wrote:(The sump bottle was standard equipment on later aircraft and is a good idea, although most of our airplanes haven't had this as a problem. It collects condensate from aircraft which are subjected to temperature extremes in humid climes or from aircraft which operate at extreme altitude changes in humid climes. Most 170's do not suffer from this.)

You have to be careful assigning "Minor vs Major" to specific tasks. There are publications out there that can help with that determination. If you have an IFR certified A/C it's a major alteration requiring a pilot static check.

Hmm. If you open your pitot static system on a aircraft with a current pitot inspection I/A/W FAR 91.411 your aircraft would simply not be qualified to be flown IFR in controlled airspace until a new check is made of the system per Part 43 appendix E.
I don't see how whether the inspection required of 91.411 being current or not changes this alteration to a major rather than a minor alteration. What am I missing?
