clock removal

There is a lot of information on clock repair or replace, however not much on how to get it out of the panel.
When I look under the panel I see two nuts that look easy to turn. I don't see an easy way to hold the screws from turning.
A little guidance before I mess things up would be helpful.

Aryana is probably right regarding the panel overlay. You have to pop the panel overlay out then there are 2 screws that hold the clock onto the panel. That's how it was on my 53. BTW if anyone wants an original 8 day clock in working condition I'll sell mine.

As you probably know, with these old airplanes, that is only a guideline. Is your panel the piano-key style? Ives even more than a few panels in older airplanes swapped in favor of later model panels, Avion panels, or some bastardized homebrewed "solution". Do you have a picture of your panel to post here?

On the '52 (stock panel), there is a bracket that the clock and amp meter are attached to which attaches to the panel from behind.
Crawl up under the panel and look at the back of the clock and you'll see what I mean.
It's a bear to get that bracket off as the nuts are tough to get at (if memory serves).
Figure 37 in the IPC.
For mine, I was able to get a thin screw driver from the front and hold the screws while I backed off the nuts.
It was a gymnastic feat to accomplish tho. You might want to find a buddy to give a hand.

Remove the overlay panel. Then you'll have full access.

On the '52, there is no overlay panel for the clock, amperage, oil pressure and temp gauges.
