Thanks Gary, that is a great demonstration of the reason to have diodes on our relays.

Re: Master solenoid
(I used master solenoids to also power up my dual landing and dual taxi lamps so I would not have to change the cockpit switch or placarding.)johneeb wrote:Threegahorn wrote:Got 'em on all three of my "master solenoids".![]()

Wow I thought I was bragging when I say I have two, One for me and one for the little boy that lived in a shoe, E-I-E-I-O (like me he has a solenoid for his starter).

Re: Master solenoid
Hi All
Does anyone know where I may find the plastic cover to my solenoid/contactor mounted on the battery box? The plastic cover is junk but the solenoid works fine.

Re: Master solenoid
Dick, I'm afraid you are one of the few, like me, who is still running the original solenoid. Many don't know what the original looks like.
This particular example I bought at convention action for a few dollars. Our Parts and Maintenance coordinator came over to my table and asked what I intended to do with it. I said keep it for a spare. He looked at me and said that it was not the correct solenoid for our 170s. When I explained that indeed it was the original he paused and gave me a look, then retreated back to his table realizing he missed out on such a treasure.

Re: Master solenoid
Me too. It needed a minor repair last year, but the contacts were still in perfect condition. And I touched up a crack in the cover with JB Weld.you are one of the few, like me, who is still running the original solenoid

I don't recall saying it wasn't the "correct" solenoid. (I may have said it's not the current part no. perhaps?)Bruce Fenstermacher wrote:Dick, I'm afraid you are one of the few, like me, who is still running the original solenoid. Many don't know what the original looks like.

Re: Master solenoid
George, will the ACS Starter Solenoid Diode Assembly (16050-2) that you previously mentioned from Spruce be sufficient for both the Master and starter solenoids? I have a key start. Thanks.

Re: Master solenoid
Yes it will. The diode actually protects the switch from damage (and in some circuits also prevents surges from hitting avionics.)
