0300A Starter Seal

The shaft seal on my starter is leaking pretty good and so far I haven't been able to find a seal, Does anyone have an ideal where I could find one ?

I got mine at a automotive starter rebuilder. I think it was under a dollar. The number on the old seal tells you all you need to know.

According to the parts book, the starter is # 1109656. If you have this starter, maybe this link will help. Note the last post in the thread.

If you're talking about the pull starter engagement shaft, it's most likely going to leak no matter what you do. I replaced seals and polished that shaft numerous times to no avail over the course of almost 24 years. A drop of oil just seemed to live on the aft end of that shaft.

At last overhaul I installed a B&C starter and never looked back. It doesn't leak, it spins the engine close to 300 RPM, and as a side benefit it's several pounds lighter.

Thanks, this it a great site good input, After looking around I think the way to go is the new key starter , just have to cut the shaft so it will fit.

I haven't done it my self in this situation but have been told of putting a " Speedie seal on the shaft to take up some slack between the seal and the shelf. It's a thin stainless "shim" cylinder that is glued to the shelf.
