Push rod tube rubber boot movement
Has anyone ever had the rubber boots on the push rod tubes start to slide away from the lifter housing and move up the push rod tube? Found that 3 boots started to do this on our 0300D. All new boots and clamps were installed at TOH.

Yes, they dry out and harden, then might migrate if they're disturbed.
Simple solution (if a bit unorthodox)... slide them up, clean them and the housings with alcohol or acetone and let dry... then use a small amount of gasket-quality RTV to seal them into position. (This type RTV is commonly used to "form a gasket" in modern auto engine assembly and is oil-resistant. Stops leaks also, but be certain not to allow excess down into the engine or to block oil draining back down the tube into the sump, and allow it to cure completely before operating the engine.)
Permatex Ultra-Black has been used with good results.

Thanks, George. Will give this a try. Been looking into the spring loaded seals, but a bit pricey for now.
