No TCP?!

Post by bentley »

I am assuming I am STILL on back order for TCP via Spruce and other vendors but was wondering in the absence of the magic stuff what other C-145/O-300 operators do to minimize the lead build-up and valve sticking while using 100LL. I currently do the MMO thing at recommended concentrations in both oil and fuel and also lean to approx 75 ROP with a single point EGT. So far no problems but......... any suggestions?
Don't want to have to try the rope trick if I can avoid it.

Ray,I don't have an answer for you but I see that you're flying "Twenty-five Dollar Charlie". At least that's the nickname a previous owner hung on it. I looked at that airplane when Tom Scheler had it for sale in the Everett WA area back in 1997. We didn't agree on a price so I ended up buying my ragwing.
I saw occasionally over the next few years, then a year or two ago I saw it at Harvey Field in Snohomish WA stripped, masked,& ready for paint. Which it needed! What colors & paint scheme is it sporting nowadays?
Have you owned it long? Kinda reminds me of someone's statement that we don't really own these classics,we're just temporary guardians! I'm glad to hear it's still out & about. Where in Oregon are you based?

I spent an hour last week at Alcor's offices with the pres., Mike Hundere. He said it's expected that TCP will be in production this month. He also said they plan to use the idea I mentioned, re: plastic squeeze bottles with calibrated chambers for dispensing.
A Waco, TX firm will mix the stuff for them as a work-around of some enviromental and local zoning ordinances. I expect to visit with him again around the 1st of April, and will post any new findings.

What is TCP? For a computer guy such as myself it means "transmission control protocol "

TriCresylPHosphate (TCP) mfr'd by Alcor (the EGT folks in San Antonio) is an FAA approved blended fuel additive that removes lead during the combusion process to eliminate or reduce the bad side-effects of lead in avgas. (Spark plug fouling, stuck valves, increased internal parts wear, etc.) It is added to 100LL at the rate of 1 oz per 10 gals of fuel, and is especially helpful for those engines designed to run on 91/96 or 80/87 octane avgas.
