I was in recently doing some panel updates and noticed the floating panel in my 1953 B model was sagging quite a bit...almost a half inch. I bought some new vibration isolators from Wagaero (For a Cessna, brass stud....did read the previous thread about that) and put them in. The result, the same! In fact, worse as a number of the mounts simply tore out apart! I ended up putting the old ones back in this morning.
Is this normal? Can this sag be eliminated? There is very little clearance between a VOR head I have mounted in the top of the panel and the top of the control yolk at full aft stick. I could really use the extra 1/4" or so I was hoping to get with the new mounts. The panel is an IFR panel (so full vacuum gyros, T&B, etc...) but I don't know that it's significantly heavier than what they had back in the day.
Sounds like you just got some bad parts (I've never been a big fan of Wag Aero...). I don't remember where I got the last set I bought, but if I needed a set now, the first thing I'd do is get a part number out of the IPC and check iwantcessnaparts.com

There are some that have the opinion isolation dampers are not needed on the floating panel. As smooth as these Continental O-300 engines run, I would tend to agree nylon bushings would work just as well, give slight damping, and would never sag.
