New strobe options

Post by bagarre »

If you had an airplane with no strobes and wanted to add strobes, what strobes would you add?

I keep looking at the LED strobe/marker light combos but then I keep looking at the price too.
Opinions on the state of the art out there?

I installed the Aveo lights on mine. Pricey? Yes but simple installation, no power boxes to mess with, and they are very bright. I've received comments in-flight about how visible the plane is, which makes it all worth it to me. I also installed the tail unit as well.

That price isn't any worse than Whelen's regular strobe kit actually.
I have no strobes at the moment so the LED packs look very good.
Also like Avep's lifetime replacement guarantee if they fail.

There is always Aeroflash they even have double flash strobes, not the brightest but price wise probably the cheapest.

I bit the bullet and did the Whelen LED strobe/nav light combo. Had to run extra wire for 12v to strobe at each position, and a wire to cause all to flash together. Works great--probably a bit less install time than separate strobe lights, and with LED landing lights, a big drop in night current draw! Seem to be about as visible as conventional strobes.

The Whelen strobe system (and possibly other brands as well) is that you can set it so both wing strobes flash at the same time or you can have them flash one at a time. With the second option the flash is brighter than if both flash at the same time.
