Fastener-Baffle

Post by Lee »

Hi ... I have been cleaning up, painting and installing new baffle seals on my '54 170. I noticed that I am missing a couple of the inner cylinder baffles and the associated fasteners. (p/n 0450171, 0450209 and 0450211-2) I am concerned about all of the supports ... interesting working with 63 year old aluminum! Any ideas on where these parts can be found? I looked at a couple of sources (Preferred Airparts for example) and no joy. Another place had the fasteners for about $8.00 each which seemed a little steep for what looks like an elongated spring. Any guidance would be much appreciated! R/Lee (N1967C)

Lee,
Airforms sells most of the parts you're looking for. Check out this discussion for making the spring connector. I've wondered about using the '63-'67 C-172 inter-cylinder baffling. It seems a lot less mickey mouse as at uses bolts to hold the lower baffle in place. The aluminum used for the baffles is also thicker. Alas -- probably not legal without a lot of paperwork.

Thanks, Gary ... I bought the seals from AirForms and I have kind of kicked myself for not buying the baffles and seals as a set ... it would have saved me weeks of work! The springs/fasteners are the main question ... I did not think AirForms had those. Thanks for the info ... R/Lee
