In the hanger today we were talking about non-TSO'd instruments. I have been reading through several forums online and there seems to be a lot of confusion on the subject. I am looking for the regulatory reference if it required for part 91. Basically, could I put a Falcon altimeter in my 170?
I saw FAA Order 8900.1 which does not appear to apply to part 91. Since the 170 was manufactured under CAR-3 the original instruments on the MEL were not TSO'd.
FAR 91.205 does not require any of the instruments to be TSO’d.
FAA approval is still required to install equipment in a certified production aircraft per FAR Part 21 with a 337 (No reference to TSO).
What am I missing here?
