Franklin 220 engine

hello,
im Tom Ford, new to this forum and came here because some one on supercub.org said ya'll might know more bout the fraknklin....

my dad has a 1969 cessna 172k and is thinking about putting a penyan or airplanes factory new lyc. in it. We just saw the site for franklin engines. are they a real factory or just some guy buying old burnt out engines and re makine them?
what do you think of them?
are they worth it... a 220hp c/s vs a 180 f/p
has any one bought one recently for a skyhawk or 170?

It is my understanding that PZL has discontinued production of the 220 Franklin engine. I don't know if they will continue to support them or not,if that is true, or how many new engines (if any) are still available. Otherwise, it is a "remaking old burned-out engines" show.
I don't think this outfit overhauls them,I think they just offer the STC & new engines.

You are much better off using the Tom Anderson XP mod using the Continental IO-360- engine, better parts support, clean install, it does not ugly your cowl. as does the Lycoming.

I don't believe XP Mods has a STC to install the Continental IO-360 in the Cessna 172. I believe their STC applies only to the C-170.
