C145 oil level

Post by Richgj3 »

What level do you guys keep it at? Or to ask another way, where does it settle at?

Thanks

When I change oil and filter I put in seven qts. I let it operate at 6, and add oil when it gets to 5-1/2. I keep an eye on oil temp and don’t ever see more than 220 on a gauge that goes to 245.

My engine throws oil out the breather at more than 7 and settles down at 6 over the next 3 or 4 hours. It will stay around 6 for the next five hours. The minimum operating according to TCM is 4.

No oil filter on my airplane. It likes to sit between 5 1/2 and 6. Anything much over 6 and it pukes out of the breather.

At one of Cont briefings the guy said fill it. I don't think anyone does.

Relying on memory here.... I believe the certification basis for this aircraft and engine combination required that the engine sump hold sufficient oil to allow the maximum oil consumption allowable by the engine mfr’r to minimally meet the fuel-endurance of the airplane. Since Cessna claims this airplane has an endurance of 4 hours at maximum power...and TCM says that up to one-quart per hour is “allowable” and that four quarts is minimum operating quantity.... the sump holds 8 quarts.

KInda give you a warm, fuzzy feeling doesn’t it....

I agree with George, I put in 7 qts and add when its dips below 6 qts.. If I put in 8, it seems to come out the breather and finds its way to the belly.
