Shoulder harness

Post by Richgj3 »

My 52 170B has only lap belts. I’d like to add shoulder belts. I know the BAS inertial reel are very good. The problem is I have a beautiful custom headliner that I’m afraid won’t come through the process unscathed. I have seen pictures of 170s with a single shoulder belt attached at the rear door frame. This would still involve the headliner but would be much less invasive. I know it’s not as good as the BAS solution but I’m thinking it’s better than nothing by a long shot.

Thoughts? Anybody have the single belt? If so, who has the STC?

The BAS harnesses come with trim plates that nicely cover the slits in the the headliner (at least they did in 1995...).

I was curious about the three point harness option. Didn’t get any response...

I wouldn’t even consider a 3 point harness system in a tail dragger. Especially if you join the the nose down club. The full harness is the only way to go . It keeps you looking beautiful if the unexpected happens .

I did find an STC’d three point kit discussed here years ago. I should have searched the forum first. I’m not sure if that kit is still available. I hear what you’re saying about the four point harness. I guess I have some thinking to do.

Thanks.

Rich,

See the link in my post above. There is a link to the company (Alpha Aviation) with the shoulder harness there.
