Trio Autopilot Update

Post by Coolin170 »

To those few who would like A/P option, Jan said she would include the following info in the next flypaper. We are up to at least 11 signed up. The more who sign up, the sooner it could become an option.
Jeff Odum added “Please note that we now have a few projects in pipeline we have committed to finish before we start anything new."

“Due to lack of preliminary interest, the project of certifying the Full-featured Trio Pro Pilot digital autopilot for Cessna 170 A&B aircraft by the STC group has been on hold since last summer. By 2/15/2021 eleven (11) have signed up. Please let the STC group know if you are interested. TheSTCgroupllc.com

The system price is $5,595.00 and labor to install in most shops is usually 30 to 40 hours. This includes Trio Pro Pilot Control Head, 2 Servos, complete wire harness, 2 Switches, 1 Circuit Breaker, Placard, STC Kit Hardware and STC paperwork.

For Deposit signing up, STC group is exploring a “group buy” for 170 models. There will be a sliding scale for how many people participate. $500-$1,000 deposit would be required before the project begins.”

Received an update from Jeff Odum today on signups for the Trio Pro Pilot Digital Autopilot:

Hello Bill,
It has increased to about 20 people. Once we clear our projects off the table we look to begin.
Post Osh Kosh most likely.

Received this email from Jeff Odum yesterday, for what its worth.

The Cessna 170 is still on our roadmap but it was removed from the website until we get our current projects completed.
Unfortunately the STC's are taking more time and resources than they had previously.

Anything new from STC Group regarding the C170B Trio autopilot approval project?

I was just reading the Mar 22 issue of Cessna Owner Magazine. On pp. 16-20 there is a pretty strong endorsement of the Trio autopilot. And I remembered 20 of us put money down on the development of an stc for our 170’s. I’m still hoping the Odums will follow through….

Thanks, Paul Tappen

I talked to Paul after 2021 AirVenture and he said that they dropped the project after Garmin put the C170B on their list of possible projects. I do not remember Trio or Jeff Odum taking deposits for the C170B certification program. Maybe I missed out on that. I am hoping someone, Garmin, Trio or TruTrak will have some good news for us at AirVenture regarding a cost effective modern autopilot solution. Maybe I am dreaming.

Trio autopilot is now STC’ed for the C-170B. Cessna Owner Magazine has an article on both the C-170B and the Trio Autopilot.

I won’t buy an AutoPIlot for a Cessna 170 that doesn’t include AUTO-LAND!
