Donning the annual and wanted to change the shaft with a new one from Mc Farlane. Once the paint was stripped there was an ugly repair which had to be fixed before replacing the shaft. Fortunately I have a good friend who is a DAR and an excellent sheet metal guy.

Re: Air Box repair
Thanks for posting pics, Rich. Yes, the airbox and all induction structure is critical to avoid engine damage. Loose parts and particles from fractured airboxes are dangerous to the health of your engine....not so much from dirty air.... but from metal parts that vibrate loose and get sucked into cylinders!
It’s an are plenty of folks “look the other way” during inspections because they are tedious and can be hard-to-find replacements.... repairs can be demanding.... and all the above are expen$ive.
But consider the alternative co$t$ if that engine sucks-in a piece of metal at night over the terrain.
Glad to see you’ve found someone who knows how to work with sheet metal.
For those who don’t feel good about their metal-working skills..... REmove the airbox and ship it to someone who Does Good Work. (I sent mine to our fellow Assoc’n Member Del Lehmann of Mountain Airframe, Mena, AR.. Came back a week later looking brand new.)
