Ragwing cowl compatibility
The cowl on my 48 has gotten pretty ratty over the years. Patches, doublers, lots of stop-drilled cracks. At this point I suspect paying a good sheet metal man to repair the damage would cost more than sourcing a decent replacement. The early 170A cowls use the same part numbers as the '48 so no worries there. Are the later A-model and early B-model cowls compatible, other than the difference in lip size?

Re: Ragwing cowl compatibility
I seem to recall there’s a difference in the air scoop and perhaps the aft doubler…but I’m searching for my notes on the subject…don’t hold me to it yet.
