Stall Horn Light, C170b
Hello all,
The light on our stall horn was removed when a panel was placed in front of it in our 1953 C170b (26055). When we upgraded our panel, we exposed the stall horn again (the horn works), but the light doesn't. So... Can the lightbulb be replaced? If so, Which bulb is it and could we replace it with an LED version?
It's horn part number 0511062-2.... I think.
Thanks for any/all help!
Tailwinds,
Dale

Here's a photo of what the stall horn looks like.

Yes it can be replaced. The original Cessna PN is 0511060-1…but that’s just to confuse you.
It’s only a GE-1816 lamp (bulb) costing about 66-cents. Get it at NAPA or O’Reilly or AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts…etc etc.
Grab the rd-lens…unscrew it…. pull out the lamp… install the new GE-1816 lamp….re-install the red lens.

I just realized something we are also missing... The red lens!
Now where do you find that?

Anyone know a good salvage yard?

To remove the lamp…sometimes it helpful to use a short piece of pvc or rubber tubing abouut 1/4” 0 5/16”….to press the end of the tubing onto the top of the lamp… This depresses the lamp into it’s socket to “unlatch” the pins….and then twist the tubing counter-clockwise to remove the lamp.
The lens… Hmmmn…… yes a salvage yard..but that might get costly…. I disliked how bright the red light was and found a computer surplus store with a variety of such items from fore-gone days… and installed it. I’ll look for the original one to see if I can donate it to your cause….

Although this one is pretty close, I think the original has a frosted lens that doesn’t protrude quite as much. This one might end up being too bright. Dialight seems to be the big name in indicator lights. Take a look at their 375 and 376 series lights on pages 103-104 of their catalog. If originality is not a concern, an LED light like a 657 series light on page 57 of their catalog would be a direct replacement.

That appears to be the one I have installed on mine, Gary.

My lens, which I believe is original to my plane, is frosted. When I bought my plane the bulb was burnt out, and I replaced it with an LED equivalent to the GE 1816 but with greater lumens. I still can’t see it in daylight. It’s not something I look at anyway.
