Probably cool considering all the air being pulled over an unrestricted engine front(back), top and bottom. #1 and #2 likely the coolest.

I’m thinking that without any baffles at all…the intercylinder temps must get pretty warm with no updraft or downdraft occurring.

I’m thinking that the only reason we need down flow air cooling directed by baffles in our planes is because we only have two small inlets in the front of our cowl to let any cool air in. The airboat cylinders are completely surrounded by cool air at all times.

I had sent a query to the owner…and here’s his reply:


“ 2009 Scorpion hull 12’ x 7’ riveted 6061-T6.
The engine is a Continental O-470 from early 1960’s off a Beech Debonair. Propeller is a 72” Whirlwind Whisper Tip turning 2850 RPM. CHT’s are about 375*F. MA4-5 carb.
5” bore, 4” stroke. 7:1 compression. Burns pump regular. Straight 50W AV oil.
Timed-out engine when I bought it in 2009. Still chugging along. When America built stuff that lasted. It should run a few more decades. lol”
