Looking for info on Avcon firewall mount
Would anyone know where I can locate a Avcon 0360 motor mount for a 172 straight tail? Thanks

Re: Looking for info on Avcon firewall mount
Firstly I am really going to kick the hornets nest by saying this .. I was told recently [no names to protect the guilty] some one had corrosion internally in his tubular engine mount on his 170b conversion [avcon ] , It was too far corroded for a repair . and he used a early 172 series engine mount for replacement and “claimed” it fitted perfectly. This was done in Canada with no paper work. I haven’t seen it and it’s only hearsay. Another source of an engine mount ,could be Stoots of Alaska or Harry Delickers Company at Porterville in Cal. Having the correct paper work trail,I simply do not know .

Re: Looking for info on Avcon firewall mount
Cessna ended the straight-tail C-172 at s/n 46754 (end of 1959) and the flat firewall a little later at s/n 47746 (end of 1960). The stepped firewall was introduced before Cessna switched from the O-300 Continental to the Lycoming O-320. This engine manufacturer change happened at s/n 17256513 (1968 172I). So it doesn’t appear that one could simply bolt on a C-172 Lycoming engine mount to the flat firewall of a C-170/170A/170B or a straight-tail 172.
There are two STC’s held by Avcon for the Lycoming O-360 conversion on the C-172, SA420CE and SA807CE. Which STC are you looking for an engine mount for? In addition to the fore mentioned Stoots and Del-Air engine mounts, an Avcon/Williams mount for a C-170 like this one from Acorn Welding might fit. Approval is another matter. The p/n 17001-1 is for the stepped firewall 172 mount so I think there’s a good chance that the 17001 p/n Acorn gives for the C-170 mount may also apply to the straight tail 172. The FAA’s website doesn’t list anyone that has a PMA to manufacture this engine mount. So it would have to be an owner-produced part for which you’ll need some blueprints or a mount to reverse engineer from or, if you can find a damaged mount, AWI, Acorn Welding, or Plane Exhaust may be able to help you repair it.
