Ladies and Gentlemen,
Do any of our capable 170 experts know the thickness of the forward wing spar in the area of the fuel tank. The "100" Service Manual indicates it to be 2024-T3 aluminum alloy, but does not provide the thickness of the material. Will aprreciate any comments or help with this.

By the wing spar are you meaning the channel alone? not the angle or stiffner?If you had the part number it would help us know exactly which part you are refering to.
I have found Duane Ayre to be extremely helpful as a Cessna Tech rep. The number to reach him is #316-517-5800. Failing that I have a wing disassembled I could throw a mic on the part, if you tell me where you need it measured. Brian

Good point. The P/N of interest is 0523301-2 Forward Spar, Right Wing. The thickness of the angle will also be helpful. We recently had to replace the fuel filler gaskets in both tanks and on removing the upper wing skin panels over the tanks discovered a small area of exfoliation (about 1 to 1.5 inches) in the upper surface of the right forward wing spar. I have the -100 Service Manual which provides the approved method of repair, but do not know the thickness of 2024-T3 material necessary to effect the repair.
If you can provide that without going to too much trouble, would really appreciate it. If not, I will telephone Cessna as you suggest. Sometimes difficult to reach someone who "knows" at Cessna.

Brian this is my problem, i need this part 0523301-2 becouse my right wing is damage for corrosión and i can get this part i search for all over place and i can find it, please i need you help, my Aircraft is a 1953 Cessna 170B. P.d i need to find this part

The right hand wing spar assembly (p/n 0523301-2) is also used on the early Cessna 172's from 1956-1974 (s/n 28000-17260758). Because these aircraft are a lot more common than the C-170 you are more likely to find your replacement spar assembly from a C-172 wing. Here are a couple of snapshots from the 172 Illustrated Parts Manual (IPC) that show what you are looking for much more clearly than the C-170 IPC. It might be cheaper to buy a used wing rather than getting yours rebuilt as it will involve placing the wing in a jig to insure that the wing alignment is correct when it is rebuilt. If you decide to rebuild your wing Texas Air Salvage has this wing for parts for $1500. For comparison this wing is available for $3250 in Florida. (If I was to buy a salvage wing I would try to find one from a dry state like Arizona rather than a humid state like Florida -- less chance of getting a wing with corrosion). The C-170B right hand wing is part number 0523005-1. This number has been replaced by p/n 0523005-214. P/n 0523005-200 has also been replaced by p/n 0523005-214 so I think any of these three numbers should work. If you were to buy a rebuilt wing in the United States I would suggest calling Beegles Aircraft Service or Airframe Components by Williams. Williams inventory shows that they have several wings that match the above part numbers in stock. I'm sure we have bilingual C-170 association members that would be glad to assist your getting your aircraft flying again.
