Wing & cockpit covers

Shortly before I wrecked my 48 model 170, I purchased a set of Kennon wing and cockpit covers. They were slightly used when I purchased them and I only used them about two weeks. The guy I purchased them from used them on his 48 model, but I think that they are actually for a 170A or 170B because they have square wingtips. They fit ok on my ragwing, but would fit better on a later model.

Actually my family is out growing the 170 so I'm looking for something bigger... right now the plane I am looking at is a '68 Navion Rangemaster.

'68 Rangemaster - nice airplane ! I understand they're a delight to fly and very stable. Fellow in adjacent hangar to mine has a Navion and loves it.

It does seem to be an easy plane to fly... I had the opportunity to put about four hours on it last week on a long cross country. Flew nice, lots of room & five seats. Seemed to have some sort of funky dutch roll in turbulence however. I couldn't quite figure out where it was coming from so dutch roll might be a bad descriptor. It seems to be a good deal, but I am being cautious at this time.

Navion Rangemaster

I've never flown a Navion but have always heard it's a good flying airplane. Does that "Dutch roll" happen only in turbulent air ? A V-tail Bonanza wallows around a bit but it's still a great machine.
You're right to be cautious though. I guess you've checked for any AD's and Service Bulletins and you'll want a really good pre-purchase inspection by someone familiar with the type.

If the engine has not been upgraded to more horsepower they are an easy airplane to over gross. They do have great strength and look sort of like their relative, the P51, when flying overhead.

This is the later model Rangemaster.. the one with the Cabin instead of a canopy and a 285hp IO520 to pull it along. It grosses out at about 3115lbs. It carries 108 gallons of fuel which gives it a lot of endurance.
