I am working on my floatkit for my 170B. I am now to the point of purchassing a new prop for floats and skis. By mistake, my AME give me a price for a 82" props for my 8 bolts flange. After remainding him that the 0-300 was only accepted with a 1A175DM8042, he tells me that we could install a 82" borer prop and get LSTC with field approval.
Those any one have experience with an 82" prop on a 0-300 for my 170B?
The 82" prop is about 700 $ cheaper then the 82". I don't mind to spend the extra money if the result is better, but I am wondering why smaller arcraft like taylorcraft and supercub have borer prop and the 170 is still on 76" to 80".
I don't mind going through the paper work if the performance are better.

76" is the biggest allowed by the TC. There are 2 (US) STC's for 80" props, Kenmore's is the easiest to get. I've never heard of anyone with a stock motor ever getting approval for anything longer. I'm curious about the 82" your AME is proposing - what make and model is it?
there's no such thing as a Borer prop for a Cessna. Rodger Borer obtained STC's for long props on all manner of Cubs, so his name's become synonymous w/ long Cub props. Don't think he ever STC'd a prop on a Cessna.

Spiro,
I will meet my AME monday. I will ask him the question question.
Do you know if there is an other aircraft with a 0-300 that might have the STC for an 82" prop?
My AME was talking of asking for a limited STC since the prop he thinks the 82" prop is approved on that engine for an other model of aircraft.
One thing is shure, if you guys in Alaska never tryied such a propellor, it is probably because it wont work!
I will keep you posted after I meet my AME
