I'm a little confused about Aero and Federal. Are they the same thing now? Are they (or either of them ) still in production?
And what size? I see that Aero made 3000's and 2000 both probably certified for the 170. Any opinions on size? I will be flying into packed airstrips 95% of the time, with an occasional foray later on to unpacked surfaces.
I guess the question extends to the Landes/Airglas models. 3000 and 2500. Anything about the 3000's on a 170B that make them worth an extra $500?

I have Landis 3000’s. Landis is making a newer composite ski probably not yet certified for the 170. They are VERY light and expensive………..but probably worth it in the long run. Landis is a VERY reputable company. If you are going to be in the powder with a stock 170-B then you probably need 3000’s. This is advice from a guy who used to live in Galena with a stock 170-B. I'm on floats now and have the Avcon 180hp conversion with
an 80" prop.
Aero is still in buisness in fact I am one of their dealers. They are very similar to the Federals but not the same. I run the 3000 on my 170B and love them. The Landis skis are a good product too.

So, has anyone actually run both the Aero 3000's and the Landes 2500's on the same 170 or similarly equip ones? And notice a big difference? Off hand does anyone know the difference in size between the Landes 2500 and 3000, I was thinking same length and the 2500's are 14" wide and the 3000 16" wide and the 3000 build a little heavy for the 180/5's. I have the Landes 2500's and put UHMW on the bottoms and went out a inch on the sides. I'm happy with them, I usually only breakout the snowshoes once a winter.

To shovel with or walk?
Landis 3000's measure 16" X 80". I think you can go 10% over with UHMW as of last year. The big footprint is nice. The problem being the strain on the axels turning and of course the larger skis weigh more; but after floats anything is light!
Ya, the Landes 2500 are 14"x80", mine are 16"x80" with the uhmw. The snowshoe are for stomping a trail usually resulting from not makeing a turn in powder.
