All that fuse talk got me thinking about my parts pile in the basement. I took a look and found a few fuses that appear to be in good condition:
AGS20 - 2 ea
AGS25 - 2 ea
AGS40 - 1 ea
AGC20 - 1 ea
My '52 was converted to CBs before I bought it so I have no use for the fuses. No guarantees, but if somebody wants 'em, they can have 'em.
No electrical charge

No charge caused by master switch failure
My friends 170 was having charging problems. It also had issues with the main fuse (glass type) for the charging system (powered by a generator). Various things were checked after a loss of charge. The first being the fuse which was fried. After replacing charging seemed OK but we always noticed that it was charging roughly, as the ammeter jumped continuously. We chalked it up to the strobes drawing current in spurts. After a few short flights, the charge stopped again, only the fuse was fine! The local AME found the regulator to be at fault, so a new one was installed. A few more flights and the system stopped charging mid flight. After carefully reducing load, the master switch was cycled which fixed the problem! The master has 2 sets of contacts, and the one controlling the generator was intermittant. Upon removing the switch, those contacts were found to be badly burned. So bad that the terminals literally fell out when trying to loosen the screws holding the leads on!
It seems the intermittant connection had developed heat and caused the eventual failure of the switch.
The moral of the story is that if you have charge problems that are hard to diagnose, CHECK YOUR MASTER SWITCH.
Luckily a NOS switch was found, and the 170 will be put right as soon as it arrives.
