Fuel Sender Float

Post by william halford »

Can anyone tell me where I can find a place to buy fuel sender FLOATS. The Rt wing is sticking and after pulling the sender out i noticed that the float looks about as old as the 1951 170A. It is real hard and brittle I did a search but to no avail.. Gary

The originals were cork will coated with shellac. If yours is intact, let it dry out good and give it several coats of shellac.

Mine were breaking up. I ordered new gages from Aircraft Spruce - they're not all that expensive. The only thing is, they're universal. The arms are far too long. I cut mine so they matched the originals, but with the float in line with the arm rather than at 90 degrees. Put a 90 degree bend to keep the float from coming off. They work great!

And if you want an alternative to shellac: the Cub folks know that Polyfiber's two-part epoxy varnish works extremely well or cork fuel floats, and lasts a long time.
