Does anyone know if the magnesium accessory case on our O300 engines can be repaired if they have a crack in them? It is possible that mine may have a crack which may have been the source of my oil leak which I have been chasing for quite some time now. I will know more once my IA has done a dye check or similiar test. Anyone happen to have a servicable accessory case you are wanting to sell?
When I did an overhaul in 1999 my case was sent to Ajax in San Antonio and I was told my original accessory case had a crack in it (they didn't specify where nor return the old one to me when they sold me a servicable one so I have no knowlege if one can be repaired or not>)

accessory case
I had mine repaired by Drake in Tulsa. The threads where the oil filter adapter attached were gauled. The made it look new. As for a crack, I don't know. Give them a call.

TIC170A member Dennis Hoffman (July '07 calendar photo) reminded me today of his experience last summer with an oil leak in this area. It turned out that the oil seal in the tach drive housing had been installed backwards long ago. It took a long time to track that down, including replacing his alternator and other things. A smart mechanic here figured it out.

Magnesium is tough to repair, you may give drake a shot. the other alternatives are to get another servicable assy housing or if you have gobs of money there are certain IO 360 aluminum assy cases that show interchangeable on certain O300's, the case is not that bad, its the oil pump gears for the 360 case thats priced more than its weight in gold
