C-145 Oil Pan Quickdrain

I have a quickdrain with 2 clips that hold the drain to drain the oil. I have looked and haven't found this style. I want to replace the seal ring during my annual coming due. Any help to identify this drain would be helpful. The drain outlet is the size of a 5/8 heater hose.

I had the same style. It started leaking. I went to replace the o-ring and found as I recall that wasn't the way to go.

I opted for the stock plug which has several advantages. One it's impossible for the 0-ring to leak because it doesn't have one. Two I get to rotate my supply of crush washers. Third I get to practice safety wiring the plug.

Seriously, in my case my cowl is easily removed and so getting to the plug and such is easy. While I had the quick drain occasionally I'd do a quick oil change with the cowl on but in most cases it was just as much a pain in the butt than just taking the cowl off.

The push-and-twist-to-open Saf-Air oil drain valves are safer because they use a push-and-twist method and they incorporate metal seats as a secondary seal. FAA-PMA, Aircraft Spruce, PN S1000. $54. 877-477-7823

I don't recall ever having a problem in replacing either the O ring or the crush washer on the "Push To Drain" type of valve, and I've done it a number of times.
I much prefer that valve over the Safair because of the drain hose size. The Safair hose size kind of restricts the flow if the oil is cold.

You shouldn't drain the oil when it's cold. You should do it when it's hot and the junk is all stirred up so it'll go down the drain with the oil. :wink:

The valve I recommended uses a 3/8" hose and drains in 1.5 beers and 5 Frisbee throws for Roullette! :lol:

I don't have a Frisbee or a dog.
I don't have an oil filter either.
I like the oil to be cold enough to need three beers.
If the junk in the oil gets stirred up and deains out, the sump may start leaking, and you all know how hard it is to fing a good replacement sump.
