O-360 stc?

Post by kestrick »

I am looking for any information concerning getting an STC for a Lycoming O-360 A1A or A4M. Names and contact information is very important as I need to get an engine for my plane very quickly. Thanks in advance for the help.

O-360 STC's for 170B

Post by n2582d »

In addition to Del-Air's STC for the B model there are the following STC's listed on the FAA's website. Anybody familiar with these? Which are still for sale?
XP mods has the Cont. IO-360 STC. There is also this one is from C.K. Gackstetter: http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_an ... enDocument

Hartzell Propeller has this Lyc. O-360 STC: http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_an ... enDocument

David Stoots in Alaska has this STC for the Lyc. O-360 with a fixed pitch prop: http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_an ... enDocument

KWAD Lyc. O-360 STC: http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_an ... enDocument

From what I've read here Robert or Barbara Williams STC's should be avoided:

From a little research I've on the subject:

XP Mods is currently available.

Delair also available.

The Kwad stc has a new owner (D'Shannon Aviation I think) and I talked with some one at their shop and they didn't think it would be available anytime soon.

And the Williams STC never could get a hold of anyone that knew anything, so gave up, and also herd it should be avoided, or proceed with caution.

Stoots has current STC for Lyc IO-360 in the 172 and 175, he is working on the 170 STC to add the IO-360, as the stc is right now for the O-360 you'd have to talk to him. I actually just bought a O-360 and may use his STC. But, I have to finish a PA-12 project before I start the 180/170.

Good luck, Paul

Harry Deliher is a peach. His phone is 559-784-9440. I love my conversion. If you are near Indianapolis I'll arrange for you to review it. Mike

Curry Gackstedder ,I believe, has an STC for installing a Continental
IO-360A in the C-170, I'm not sure of the airplane model covered by the STC, but it seems to be limited to the IO-360A engine which is about impossible to find and not too hot of a model when and if you do find one.
He has been advertising an IO-360/C-170 engine mount for the last couple of years in the "Aviators Bulletin". I don't know if the STC goes with the engine mount which has been advertised at $1800, but that's a helluva lot less than the $7000 asked by "Tailwheel"Tom at XP Mods. That engine mount at $1800 would be a really sweet deal if a later model
IO-360 could be used with it.
