Safety cable fuselage attachments for straight ski's

I have bought a set of 3000 airglas straight ski's for my C170B. The cables that came with it are set up to attach to a bracket at the base of the gearleg.

When I got my plane it came with brackets on the gearlegs but also brackets on the fuselage.

I'm looking for comments/experience what would be the best way to go: (1) attach the cables to the gearleg brackets or,
(2) get new cables and attach them to fuselage brackets ?
It looks like option (1) will be on an STC from airglas, option (2) needs a form 337.

While I'm on the subject, any comments on bungees vs springs ?

Go with the fuselage mounts. There is an AD about the gear leg attachment with Air Glas, as well a couple of accident reports. Check with Atlee for replacement springs, Steve can help you.

Yeah, I would go with the fuselage mounts too. It's much better geometry than back to a gear leg bracket. Atlee Dodge springs are $100 each and you will need a field approval but will last many many years. I just put a set on this past winter after about 7 years of bungee use. New check cables are not very hard to rig up and any decent A&P up here should have done many of these. The bungee setup from Airglas are under the STC but they are not cheap either and you will have to replace every 5 years to 7 years depending on how your treat them, exposure to UV etc.

There is no AD on the gear leg attachment..... The only AD on Landes is on the LW-3600's.

I have been using the stuff provided by Landes for over 20 years with out any problems. The springs wear out too. I like doing it like the STC says.
