Cowl latch info?

Cowl latch info?
Does anyone have the information on putting pins or camlocks on the cowl latches? Is an STC or 337 req'd?

Hawkeye, I used the Dip Davis cowl latch STC, and like the results. More info. here:

There are several schemes to use to accomplish the pin method. Some make aluminum tabs that stick out from the cowl in each side of the latch to hold the pin in front of the latch.
I like what someone did on mine. They used drilled Phillister head screws through the cowl on each side of the latch. Drill a hole on each side of the latch for the screw. Insert screw and use a lock nut on the inside. Line up the drilled heads ad tighten nut. Insert pin. Will take more time thinking about it that actually doing it.

Can someone please explain exactly how the Davis latches work. I can surmise a method from the images buy prefer an explanation. Thank you.

The Dip Davis latches work like a Piper Pacer or Cherokee. Best investment for the $s I ever made in the airplane. They work and the cowl can not come open.
