I just finished reading the post started by Russ Farris in which he asks about replacing his copper oil line with a braided hose. George responded by sugjesting Aeroquip 666 and AE21502 fittings. Further discussion followed.
My questions are as follows;
In our IPC, pp86 Fig. 30, part numbers 0500106-26 (oil line) and AN816-2B (line adapter) are shown. Is that adapter the restricted orifice on the engine that is discussed? The diagram is unclear.
If I was to order a repalcement SS braided hose / teflon insert, am I correct that the hose size would be a -2
What would be the correct hose fitting part numbers to match the bulkhead fitting and restricted orifice on the engine (I'm sure they are both original)?
Lastly - are fitting part numbers specific to manufacturer?
Thanks in advance,
Kyle T.

Kyle,
AN816-2B is a standard brass nipple, 1/8 Tubing to 1/8 npt, available through several vendors including Genuine Aircraft Parts . (Be sure to pull down the correct part number).
This is an AN spec part and is the same regardless of manfacturer. To make it into a restrictor, it would have to be silver soldered or brazed closed, then drilled to the appropriate restrictor diameter (I don't recall what that diameter is, but it may have been mentioned in the original discussion.)
As for hose fittings, they would need to be a -2 AN female flare compatible with whatever hose you use. Maybe George can get you the exact part numbers, as he had at one time planned to have us make up one of these hoses as a forum at the Galveston convention.

Kyle
The AN816-2B you have in your engine should be restricted in the manner Mile's was speaking.
Don't ask me why but I have one of these right here at my computer keyboard and measuring the hole it is slightly bigger that 1/32nd but smaller that 3/64ths. I'd go smaller than larger if you were drilling one.

I was thinking .040 or .050. Looks like .040, as that's the one between 1/32 and 3/64.N9149A wrote:Don't ask me why but I have one of these right here at my computer keyboard and measuring the hole it is slightly bigger that 1/32nd but smaller that 3/64ths. Kyle, I was talking to Eric this morning, he say's the AN elbow( I believe it's a 1/8 pipe to an-2 45deg.) on the case as called for in the ipc is the restrictor, and instead of brass he usually goes with stainless. as for the hose he has A.E.R.O. in PA make his hose, he tells them the length flare to flare (including what you need for routing). He told me its the same hose arangement except for length as the C150's and when he orders it he mentions he needs a hose made like the ones installed for C150 except he needs it X long. If you go with the standard hose the cost would be around $50 more or less.
