Oldest 170 Flying
I am a new owner and member having just bought a C-170. I am curious as to the age of the oldest one currently flying. I also fly a Kolb Mark lllX at times.

Oldest 170
I knew I had one of the older ones 18036 but in looking at the members list http://cessna170.org/phpBB2/membersOnly/members.php I saw J Buford's 18005 (and likely missed an older one.)

Actually 18003 is the oldest one known to have been sold by Cessna. It has also been established that it was in a landing accident in 1976 but repairable and thought to be still owned by someone in Canada but it does not show up on the Canadian data base I have
So that would leave Serial 18004. N1201V is owned by a fellow in Washington State according to the FAA data base. No way to know if it is still airworthy.
Welcome to 170 ownership and the forum.

Kolb Driver Are you the owner of the ragwing that has recently shown up at Massey MD? I forget the exact SN of that one but it seems like it was about the 11th one sold to the public and is still flying. If that is your plane I have a ragwing about 30 miles north of you and fly into MD1 quite often. Bill K

Kolb Driver I hope to attend the L bird fly-in at Massey the last weekend of the month so I may see you then. As for now the best tip I can offer you or any other new 170 owner is to join this association as it is one of the best type clubs going with lots of good info. Bill K

Bill,
Undrestand you were at MD1 over the weekend! I was in and out during that time but we obviously didn't connect. Also heard that a couple of 170's showed up. Sorry I missed them. Sunday was the best day for flying and several L-birds showed up. I have been watching this site for some time as I was looking for a 170. I was a member of the "Cardinal Club" several years ago and it too provided a lot of info. to owners. Hopefully, this airplane will not require as much maintenance as an RG Cardinal.

Re: olest 170
can you tell me where s#18014 fits into the history of the 170 model?Kolb Driver wrote:That is affirmative. I beleive you were looking at the airplane a couple of weeks ago. My serial # is 18015 and I am really enjoying the plane. Perhaps you will give me some pointers on the 170 one of these days.
thanks....adyer@fnal.gov

Re: Oldest 170 Flying
18014 is the serial number which started with 18000. So if Cessna completed the airplanes in serial number order 18014 is pretty early. 18003 is the earliest known to be sold. So that would make 18014 the 11th 170 made that was sold by Cessna.

If 18003 was the first sold, wouldn't 18014 be the 12th?N9149A wrote:18014 is the serial number which started with 18000. Re: Oldest 170 Flying
When I count them on my fingers, yes, it would be the 12th airplane.
Or the 11th after the first.
